평범한 소년인 벤 크렌달이 어느날 밤 이상한 꿈을 꾸면서 대사건이 벌어진다. 꿈속에 본 컴퓨터 회로를 친구이자 과학도인 볼프강에게 설명한 벤은, 신기한 무저항 물체를 발견한다. 모험심 많은 친구 다렌과 함께, 세 소년은 이상한 물체를 타고 온 동네를 구경한 후, 비행물체를 스스로 조립하여 우주 여행을 갈 준비를 하고, 마침내 미지의 힘에 이끌려 외계로 떠난다. 우주선에 끌려들어간 그들은 지구에 관심이 많은 외계인들과 만나게 되고, 외계인들이 처음부터자기들을 불렀다는 걸 알게 된다.
